This picture was one of a series taken during a day of spectacular storm showers, on a day of exciting photography. As each shower closed in, I could watch the rain advancing across the estuary from the west towards me, giving me time to dismantle the camera and run for shelter behind some nearby bushes. As soon as the shower had passed over, I would sprint out again to get the camera back into position, ready for the return of the sunshine and the spectacular light and cloud-scapes that would follow.
East Anglia is renowned as a relatively flat landscape, but here the storm clouds appear almost as a mountain range, providing a dramatic background to the intricate pattern of the estuary mud and the distant cranes of the Port of Felixstowe.
