Black-tailed Skimmer Date: 20st June 2007
Camera: Nikon D2xs
The Black-tailed Skimmer is a common dragonfly throughout much of southern Britain but seem to be a particularly alert species, making them surprisingly difficult to photograph. They often settle on bare ground but no matter how stealthily I attempt to approach them, nine times out of ten, they fly away before I can get in range. This particular individual was perhaps distracted because it was consuming a meal, allowing me to take this shot.
The blue pruinescence on the abdomen of this individual identifies it as an adult male. |
